Forwards Coach Will Britton is on media duties this week and he has this to say on Saturday’s Champ Round 6 clash with Richmond at Ellgia Fields, which kicks off at 2pm.
“Looking back on last Saturday we took a lot of steps in the right direction – we’re massively disappointed that we didn’t win that game against Nottingham. We’re getting better week after week and game after game – we’re also putting in increasingly dominant performances for longer spells in matches. Last week, we were undone by a 10 minute spell but played some excellent stuff for much of the remaining 70 minutes. The challenge this week is to put in as near to an 80 minute performance as we can and take some points. Our crowd last Saturday were magnificent – their contribution is massive. It means so much to everyone. We want to reward them with wins – and they can help us by being as loud, or louder than they were last week. It really does make a difference.
“We’ve already played Richmond in pre season – we can’t read too much into that game as both sides have changed and evolved since then. They’ll bring a counter-attacking game and a strong maul – we’ll have to counter all of their strengths. There’s a lot of lads that know each other from these two great clubs so we’re really looking forward to it, and harnessing that energy from the crowd, and building on some of the fantastic stuff we did last week against Nottingham.
“We’ve had a few injuries – we’ve had a few red non-contact bibs in training this week. Prop Zac Nearchou misses out after being carried off last week. Otherwise we’re looking at pretty much the same squad although Charlie Friend is fit to return. Jake Barry will make his debut off the bench.”.
