This Saturday we bid farewell to forwards coach Neil Harris – affectionately known as ‘Baz’ – as he leaves to spend more time with his expanding family. Baz arrived at Ellgia Fields ahead of the 2022/23 National One promotion-winning campaign – he began his coaching journey at Bedford Blues Academy, and had stints as forwards coach with the USA Eagles, where he was also assistant set piece coach. Additionally, he coached Saracens Women’s forwards for three years before joining the Blood & Sand.
Cambridge Chair Tim Hague says: “Baz had an instant impact when he arrived at the club, creating a dominant pack that won National One in his first season with a strong set piece at the core of our game. We look forward to giving him a strong send off this weekend for his last home game. I am sure our supporters will join us in thanking him for his efforts and commitment over the last three years.”
Baz says:”I would firstly like to take the opportunity to thank the board, players, coaches and supporters for what has been a thrilling last three seasons. Last weekend in Cornwall just showed what incredible support we have as a team. The journey has been full of brilliant experiences and memories and I am grateful to Richie Williams for reaching out and inviting me into this fantastic rugby club. It is now time to focus on new challenges and I wish all of those at Cambridge the very best. I look forward to returning when possible, as a spectator.”
