An unexpected sunny day saw Letchworth’s Colts come to Grange Road for a development fixture against CRUFC Colts, and if you liked tries you were in for a treat!

Before Letchworth could get the measure of us Cambridge struck first with a try for Stanley within two minutes, but the opposition very quickly began to figure out how to make some holes in our defence and the next 20 minutes were expensive, with three scores to Letchworth, a yellow card against us, and nearly all of the play in our half. The Colts came to the conclusion that the best form of defence was in attack and shifted emphasis to test Letchworth with some really nice phase play that yielded four tries in quick succession. It certainly wasn’t all one way – whenever Letchworth had ball in hand they were really dangerous and both sides were putting a lot of miles in with some end to end stuff.

Into half time at 31 – 19, and shortly after half time Alfie scored, but any thoughts of putting the game away had to wait as the visitors bought on a fresh injection of pace and put two more scores on the board despite improved defence from Colts. But a final knock out punch from CRUFC Colts, thanks to Rhys and Toby, left the score at 48-34.

An exciting match all round, with 14 tries on the board and pacey attacking play from both sides punishing any lapses in concentration. Top effort from CRUFC and some tired bodies at the end of the game – rest well lads as we go again next weekend against Stowmarket.
