“We’re really looking forward to testing ourselves in Penzance this weekend. We’re improving week on week and were unlucky not to get at least a couple of points last time out against Hartpury and a losing bonus point at Coventry. We’re clearly learning and adding layers to our game and we’re regularly getting over the opposition line. Last week was very frustrating but we’re backing up our mentality – we’re staying in games and proving tough to break down.
The Blood & Sand will be without Pete White, Sam Hanks, Gareth Baxter and George Bretag-Norris for the trip to Cornwall. Zac Nearchou is suspended – Saints England U20s prop Oli Scola returns. Northampton trio Ewan Baker, Will Glister and Reuben Logan are all in the squad alongside Bristol Bears scrum half Sam Edwards. Ben Brownlie and Jared Cardew return from injury. Second row Charlie Friend makes his first Championship start. Ben Adams is unavailable.
“It’s going to be another challenge on Sunday – Pirates are a good side, well coached and used to winning on their own patch. We ran them very close for an hour last year and surprised a lot of people with the way we played. We beat them at Ellgia Fields back in October – our first win against Championship full-timers – and it’s going to be a full-on, committed encounter. We’re going to have to at our very best to come away with the result we want and deserve based on our form since Christmas”.
