Cambridge Rugby Head Coach Richie Williams has revealed his 23-man squad for the Blood and Sand’s final outing of the year on Saturday afternoon.

Travelling to Richmond to face London Scottish, Williams is hopeful that his side can end on a high;

“As we approach our final game of 2023, we are still in search of that elusive victory in our first ever season at Championship level. Every week has presented us with many challenges; however, I feel that we are continuing to learn some valuable lessons that will put us in good stead moving forwards. We have been able to adapt to many of the demands that playing full time teams have required and we have slowly closed the gap between ourselves and many more established teams at this level.”

Despite falling to another successive defeat last weekend, tomorrow’s opponents London Scottish sit just one place above Cambridge and therefore provide a more hopeful challenge;

“Once again, we were disappointed not to get any points from our previous game against Coventry. We scored 3 tries through Ben Brownlie, Matty Collins and Eli Caven and won the 2nd half 19-7. Despite the result, we remain positive and fully focussed on claiming a win this weekend against London Scottish who sit one place above us in the league.”

“London Scottish will still be on cloud nine after their recent impressive victory at home against top of the table Ealing Trailfinders. They are a side playing with high levels of confidence and are scoring freely. Despite only winning one game, they have lost several close games, most notably against Hartpury and Doncaster Knights.”

Changes to Cambridge’s side this week sees the return from injury for three players and the addition of a Premiership prop;

“We welcome back Anthony Maka, Huw Owen and Sam Hanks from injury and they will be joined by Northampton Saints prop forward, Beltus Nonleh who joined this week. Kieran Duffin returns to the bench in the only other change to the squad that took to the field last weekend against Coventry.”

Kick-off is at 3pm at Richmond Athletic Ground and fans are encouraged to travel down and support Cambridge in their final festive clash of 2023.

The side return home on Saturday 13 January, welcoming Cornish Pirates to Ellgia Fields. Tickets to the clash are on sale now.
