Cambridge Rugby Head Coach Richie Williams has named his 23-man side who are preparing to face Caldy on Saturday afternoon in round ten of the Championship.

The visitors will travel to Ellgia Fields to face the Blood and Sand on Saturday and will have a target on their backs by the home side, who are in search of their second win this season;

“Caldy sit five points ahead of us in the Championship and have picked up wins against Ampthill, Doncaster and London Scottish. Like ourselves, they are a team that over time, have built a really strong team spirit and positive culture. The majority of their squad lifted the National 1 trophy back in 2022 and they are captained by the excellent number 8, JJ Dickinson.”

Williams reflected on his own side’s progression over the last few months;

“Over the last month or so, we have seen a clear upturn in our performances, culminating in gaining 7 points from the last 10 available. In the last round, we lost 33-40 against Cornish Pirates who are 3rd in the league. The players fought back in the second half to gain two losing bonus points and played some really good, high tempo rugby. In the process, we were able to score five tries, the first time that we have scored that many this season.”

This weekend sees the welcome return of two fan favourites from the forwards pack along with a debut call up to a young scrum half;

“Our team for this weekend has another settled feel to it and we are pleased to welcome back both Billy Walker and second row Gareth Baxter. With the predicted set piece battle ahead, both players will bring a high level of experience to both scrum and lineout.”

“We also include young scrum half Jed Gelderbloom on the bench, who is in line for his first Championship appearance.”

Tickets to Saturday’s 2pm clash are available to purchase via the Cambridge Rugby website and fans are encouraged to make the most of pre-sale prices and buy today.

The Blood and Sand are then on the road for round eleven, travelling to Doncaster on Saturday 3 February.
