Cambridge Rugby have revealed their side set to face Nottingham in round sixteen of the Championship on Saturday. The Blood and Sand will welcome the Archers to Ellgia Fields for a 3pm kick off.

Returning to the field after a bye week, the Cambridge side will face seventh placed Nottingham who travel to the city after claiming a hard-fought bonus point win over London Scottish last weekend.

Head Coach Richie Williams commented on his selections this week;

“We welcome back two significant players to the starting XV, who we have really missed the last few months.

Joe Tarrant returns at full back after picking up a shoulder injury from the Premiership Cup campaign against Cornish Pirates. We also see the return of scrum half Sam Edwards, who re-joins the fold from Leicester Tigers.”

This week’s line up also features an unfamiliar name to many fans;

“Joe and Sam are also joined by another Leicester Tigers player, in hooker Archie Vanes.

Archie gained a man of the match performance in Leicester Tigers European Cup game win against Stade Francais and also scored a hat trick of tries. Both Sam and Archie represented Nottingham on dual registration last season and will be eager to get on the pitch together again.”

“Unfortunately, Joe Green is out of action due to injury and Toby Dabell and Morgan Veness move out of the squad to make room for Sam Edwards and Archie Vanes.”

The final movement occurs in the forwards pack;

“We have also changed the make-up of our back row which now sees Kieran Frost at six, Ben Adams at seven and Benji Hoppe at eight. George Bretag-Norris moves back to the second row and partners Gareth Baxter.”

In the opening leg of the Cambridge vs Nottingham clash in December, fans were on tenterhooks as the Blood and Sand went into the second half ahead, having lead the entire first half of the match. A try for Nottingham in the second half however put the home side in the lead and Cambridge were unable to claw back their early success by the final whistle.

This week’s clash therefore is not to be missed as Cambridge set their sights on righting their wrongs and claiming vital points from the visitors.

Tickets for Saturday’s game are on sale now and fans can make the most of pre-sale discounts if purchased by tonight. Visit the Cambridge Rugby Club website to buy.
