There’s another new recruit to Cambridge Rugby’s growing squad – full back Ben Currie joins the ranks from Ealing Trailfinders. Ben moved to London and from his native South Africa, playing with tenacity and distinction for Brunel University’s BUCS side and Ealing’s Academy team. Back home, he was the first choice fly half and primary kicker for Wynberg High School’s 1st XV. Wynberg has produced 6 Springboks since 1891, the latest of which, flanker, Sikhumbozo Notshe, made his Springbok debut in 2018.
Ben’s already in amongst it: “I am thrilled to be joining Cambridge for the 2025/26 season. I really enjoyed playing under Craig Newby at Brunel in London last year, so it was an easy decision to come up to Cambridge. Pre-season has been tough thus far but I’ve enjoyed every minute and I believe we’re already starting to build a solid team culture. I look forward to seeing what this squad is able to achieve this season!”
Head Coach Craig Newby is very pleased to be able to call up Ben’s talents: “Ben is a talented young rugby player. He has the ability and skill set to play fly half but it’s at fullback that his talents shine highest. Hard working, smart and fearless from the back Ben has the ability to change a game in the blink of an eye”
