Cambridge U13s opened their 2026 season with an impressive victory over Ely Tigers, scoring 15 tries in a strong all-round team performance.
The result reflected the hard work the squad put in throughout the summer. Rather than stopping during the off-season, the group continued their Friday training sessions, with a particular focus on handling skills and games of touch. That work was evident from the opening whistle, with Cambridge displaying some excellent handling, slick passing and support play to create and finish opportunities.
Just as pleasing was the defensive performance. Cambridge maintained their structure and discipline throughout the match to keep a clean sheet, despite Ely continuing to attack and compete until the final whistle. Huge credit must go to the Ely Tigers players, who remained tenacious in defence and kept their heads high despite the score line.
The match also provided the U13 pack with their first experience of fully competitive scrums. Despite being the smaller pack, Cambridge quickly established themselves at the set piece through strong technique and excellent cohesion.
A fantastic opening performance from the U13s and a great reflection of the commitment the players have shown over the summer.
