CAMBRIDGE SPORTS DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION
Welcome to the homepage of Cambridge Sports Development Foundation (CSDF).
A non-profit Charity working alongside Cambridge Rugby Union Football Club to showcase the Club into the local Cambridge community, building relationships, as well as promoting participation of Rugby Union to Schools, Colleges, Youth Clubs and other community groups that may not have experienced rugby, or are keen to grow the sport.
We offer a wide range of projects and are always looking to grow and build on our portfolio working with nationally renowned supporting groups.
The vision of CSDF is to encapsulate the core values of rugby (TREDS), and offer support, knowledge and empathy in all areas of our Community.
Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, Sportsmanship

Rugby Union is a great way to showcase health and fitness to all, and our aim is to ensure that all have the opportunity to “give it a go”.
There are a number of different forms of the game, so no matter who you are, whatever age, gender or ability, we have something for you:
- Walking Rugby
- Tag Rugby
- Touch Rugby
- Mini Rugby
- Contact Rugby
- Fun Rugby Activities
Please have a browse through our site, and learn more on what we offer.
We will be bringing a News/Blog page soon to keep everyone updated on happenings within the Community.
Our team consists of former Cambridge players, with current Senior Players (Male & Female) working alongside Colts/U18s players who are now transitioning to Senior Rugby. We really do keep things local, and we are determined to continue to build from within.
As always with a Charity, we continue to look for support from all areas. From funding to helping with promotion of the activities we action, to being involved as a volunteer helping to deliver some of our programmes.
We continuously look at ways to offer more, by accessing funds from various areas, such as Sport England, National Lottery, Eastern Counties Rugby Union, RFU, and then ensuring we deliver the agreed programmes as required. We also look to work with local and national Companies who are keen to support our work, and we have lots of options available that would suit any funding budget.
If you are interested in being involved in anyway at all with our Foundation, please do get in touch – we would love to hear from people looking to help, either just by pushing our name out there, to volunteering, or looking for some part-time work, to offering financial support for various areas that might enthuse you.
If you have an idea that you believe will benefit our Community, and feel that your vision can be incorporated by the Foundation, under Rugby’s Core Values, then we would love to hear from you.
One of the key focusses of any Community team is to get Rugby being played in Primary & Secondary Schools in the local area. We focus on assisting schools that have a limited Rugby offering, and we are seeing exciting growth.
There are a number of ways we look to help and for more information – Find out more here.
We are always on the look out for more schools to build a relationship with, so if you have a suggestion of a School we can possibly help, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
We continue to hold our own Holiday Camps at CRUFC, to offer fun and games for younger members, as well as assist parents with cover. Find out more here.
Community & Youth Clubs
As well as working across the community, a new area we have looked into is providing fun basic introduction sessions to Rugby in Youth Clubs around the region. We have actioned a couple in a local village called Orwell recently, and again looking to expand this over the coming season. Find out more here.
We are excited to now be able to offer our Alternative Provision to students in Cambridgeshire, that help them build confidence, learn new skills, and become fitter and healthier. In 2021/22 academic year we mentored 15 students at CRUFC which helped them to improve at school, and offered an alternative type of education. We already have a number of students signed up for the next academic year – and it is fantastic to watch these young people develop. Find out more here.
We are delighted to offer WALKING RUGBY to our supporters, families, neighbours, wider community and anyone else who may be keen to have fun, keep fit and play rugby over the Summer months. Find out more here.
Summer Touch Rugby
The Summer means better weather (hopefully), longer days, and more reasons to be out and about. We are keen to allow everyone to continue to develop their core rugby skills (passing and catching), along with keeping fit. This is where Touch Rugby comes in. Find out more here.
So What Do We NEED?
Well, how long have you got?
CRUFC is proud to be a Community Club, and we want to work together with our members to bring Rugby and its benefits to the local Community, so please get involved.
There are further community ideas we are working on, and the only thing holding us back is resources (staffing and funding)
– essential for offering Rugby to the Community.
We have volunteer slots, as well as paid roles available. If you can spare a couple of hours in the daytime, midweek, then get in touch.
As a Club we will support, encourage and educate you to deliver Rugby into the Community and hold your hand every step of the way. We can only offer help in the local area if we have a strong team in place – that means you.
Why not give it a go? – we assure you, it is great fun and truly worthwhile.
Concepts coming to play soon
- Deaf Rugby
- Young Offenders Rugby
- Rugby in local Villages
– who can run programs like the above without funding?
It would be fantastic to work with individuals and/or companies who can see the vision we are building from the ground up.
We want everyone involved – our CRUFC and Rugby Community helping in the Local Community.
If you feel you can help with this, then please drop us a note – email@example.com.
We will build a program to suit your needs and passions.
The more ideas we have the better. The list above is non-exhaustive. If you have suggestions of other Community led concepts, then please get in touch. No idea is a silly idea.
Also, we would love to work with other Charities, and also within the surrounding Villages of Cambridge, so again, if you have any thoughts/suggestions, send us a simple message.
