Big, hard-hitting back row Ardal Yallop is the latest recruit to Cambridge Rugby’s ranks. Having plied his trade for Cardiff Met, the same university that has produced several high-profile players including England internationals Alex Dombrandt and Tom Pearson and countless Welsh internationals including Sir Gareth Edwards, Ardal’s combative performances in BUCS Super Rugby drew the attention of a number of clubs this summer and Cambridge won the fight for his signature. Rave reviews from his time at Kenilworth RFC earned him a place in Cardiff Met’s high performance squad and he acquitted himself with aplomb.
Ardal is already in the thick of pre season training: “I’m really excited about joining Cambridge. There’s a good group of lads coming in and I can’t wait to see how far we can push each other and the Club in the new Champ!”
Head Coach Craig Newby feels Ardal typifies the no-nonsense approach he expects from his squad: “Ardal is another hungry, aggressive backrow product out of Cardiff Met. He has a huge heart and a skill set to match. His ability to turn momentum with his strong carrys is a standout feature and is an area to watch for from the side line
