Head Coach Richie is pleased to announce that Louis Grimoldby and George Bretag Norris have been named as the 2 club captains for the 2024/25 Championship season. They will be supported in their roles by 2 vice captains, Iestyn Rees and Matt Hema.
“When selecting players into leadership positions, it is important to acknowledge a number of factors. Firstly, the level and depth of experiences that the players have, both in this environment, but also in others. Secondly, the level of respect that the players have amongst their peers.
“It is important to acknowledge a lot of the excellent work that George BN has done over the past 5 or 6 seasons in his role as captain and player in the 1st XV. He has been instrumental in guiding the club to their highest ever level and has always lead with real purpose and empathy”.
Club Captain, George says,
‘It’s a real honour to be named captain once again at Cambridge.
In the short time that I have been with Cambridge relative to the clubs history, it has been an absolute pleasure to see the progression that we have made both on and off the field. It is an incredibly exciting time to be a part of the club as we strive to meet our aspiration of consolidating within the Championship, while also continuing as a driving force for the development of rugby in the East of England.
This year we have a really strong mix of longevity as well as fresh new faces and perspectives within the 1st XV, and I’m particularly excited to lead what is a talented group alongside my co-captain Louis”
“With there being a raft of new players joining over the summer, I also felt the need for there to be a fresh energy and new voice to support our current leadership model. Louis Grimoldby is able to bring a wealth of experiences from a range of professional clubs and he leads with calmness and purpose”.
Club Captain, Louis comments,
“I’m delighted to have been asked to co-captain with George this season. He knows the club inside out and brings a wealth of experience. The boys have welcomed me into the group with open arms and I’m really looking forward to the season ahead”.
“I am very confident that both Louis and George will drive the team forwards in this important season for us. They are very aligned in their thinking and I look forward to working with them both in the season ahead.
“We are also excited to add club centurion Matt Hema and new signing Iestyn Rees to our leadership group. Both of these bring a different balance to the group and will very much look to drive the on field and off field standards through their actions”.
