Cambridge Rugby are delighted to confirm the addition of Harlequins Fly-Half Jamie Benson to their squad for the remainder of the season.

Joining the Blood and Sand on a season long loan from premiership outfit Harlequins, Benson will look to continue his rugby alongside his final year of studies at Cambridge University.

Bringing a wealth of experience to Ellgia Fields, Benson, who turns 21 on Saturday, represented England U20s last year and has also taken to the pitch for two years running in the historical Oxford vs Cambridge Varsity matches, which take place at Twickenham Stadium.

Having represented Harlequins seven times at just 20 years old, Head Coach Richie Williams is excited by what Benson brings to the fold;

“Jamie Benson is a good player of high-level experience that I hope will add something a bit different to our back line. Adding another fly half to the mix gives us more strength and depth along with Steff James and Lawrence Rayner.

“At 6ft tall and 90kg, his experience in a premiership set up will no doubt bring a fresh pair of eyes and energy to the fold to not only challenge but add another layer to our attacking game.”

“Jamie has had his first week of training with us and we will now look to integrate him into the squad over the final two rounds of the Premiership Cup competition. He’s fitted in really well and is now getting up to speed with how we play and what our attacking and defensive systems are. I’m looking forward to seeing what he brings to the squad.”

Cambridge are busy preparing to take on Cornish Pirates in round three of the Premiership Rugby Cup on Saturday 23 September at Ellgia Fields. Tickets to see the team at home for the first time this season are still available here.
