Powerhouse Samoan prop Paul Masoe joins Cambridge Rugby to reinforce the front row. Pulverising performances for the New Zealand Marist club saw Paul gain international U20s recognition by the Junior Manu Samoa – and he comes from a family full of rugby pedigree. Paul is the nephew of All Black Chris Masoe – who starred for the likes of Wanganui, Taranaki, Hurricanes, Chiefs, Castres, Toulon, and Racing 92. Uncle Chris also won gold at the 2002 Commonwealth Games with the New Zealand Sevens squad, alongside Cambridge Head Coach Craig Newby.
Craig says, “He’s a physical tighthead prop who loves to scrum and carry. A huge presence around the field and one player with a very high ceiling. Paul will make the tighthead spot hugely competitive, and we look forward to welcoming him to our team.”
Paul can’t wait to enter the fray: “I’m very excited to join Cambridge Rugby and continue my rugby development under Craif’s guidance. It will be a great experience and also a fantastic opportunity to improve and challenge myself by playing in a new environment. I can’t wait to join the boys this season to face all of the incoming challenges together.”
