CAMBRIDGE SPORTS DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION IN SCHOOLS
After the issues of the pandemic, the Community section at CRUFC had to “restart the motor”. The excellent work and relationships built in previous years by Ben Penfold and his team were now null and void, due to the limitations of Schools allowing our Coaches in to coach their students safely, and the fact that majority of the Community team had departed the Club for pastures new.
We have worked hard to re-establish our network, and we are hoping for a thriving 2022/23 academic year, and continue to move from strength to strength.
The Cambridge Sports Development Foundation has now merged with the Community section, to allow us more scope to work with, and have everything under one banner in terms of how we action and offer rugby as a provision, giving us a lot more scope.
Basic Introduction to Rugby
We come and offer a fun introduction to the sport, keeping everyone moving and smiling, and show the basic elements of what rugby is about. This can be done in front of an assembly (or the whole school) or out on the pitch with a select age group
After School Club
From September 2023 we will be working with a number of local Primary Schools, overseeing/running an afterschool “Rugby Club” for their students.
We would run the Club like all other afterschool Clubs:
- Market the Club (via the School portal)
- Arrange Sign Up Links and payment options
- Liaise with parents regarding the Club
- Provide all Coaching for the Club
The target would be to teach students to play Tag or Contact Rugby at their school, on the school grounds. These skills would help hand/eye coordination and give particpants a generl understanding of the game.
Additionally, we would help any student who wished to joiun theirlocal rugby club, we would arrange tournaments with other school partners,m and potentially we would offer other exciting events, such as a Match Day Experience at Cambridge Rugby Club for a 1st XV Home Game.
The exact same elements of Tag Rugby, but with contact in mind. We would teach the dynamics of contact rugby, including how to tackle, how to be tackled, and the overall elements of the game. For Year 4s and upwards
We are especially keen to help to develop girls rugby in schools, which is becoming one of the most popular and fastest growing sports in the UK. Our experienced coaches (male & female) are fully insured, have up to date Enhanced DBS checks and hold a variety of RFU Coaching certificates. All coaches undergo continuous professional development to keep up to date and have a passion for coaching and improving participants in Rugby.
We have also had school teachers attend our Mini & Youth sessions at CRUFC on Sundays, in order for them to get ideas and grow confidence in their rugby coaching ability, which they then take back and implement at their School/College.
