Touch Rugby

Touch Rugby is back at Cambridge RUFC – coming to you every Monday from 6pm onwards, starting from Monday 27th March 2023.

The Summer means better weather (hopefully), longer days, and more reasons to be out and about. We are keen to allow everyone to continue to develop their core rugby skills (passing and catching), along with keeping fit. This is where Touch Rugby comes in.

Touch Rugby is for everyone – male, female, all ages (9 to 99), all abilities. EVERYONE IS WELCOME. Just make sure you wear appropriate clothing and shoes, bring a water bottle and some energy.

We will look at arranging Touch Rugby social events over the summer months, and potentially some friendly matches/games v other Touch Rugby teams.

There is NO cost to come down and try it out.

Remember – sessions start at 6pm and go on until approx 7:30pm every Monday evening from 27th March 2023.

Details of Touch Rugby

Touch rugby is a variant of rugby in which players do not tackle each other but instead touch their opponents using their hands on any part of the body, clothing, or the ball to indicate a tackle. Touch rugby is a fun, safe, and inclusive sport that offers many health benefits.

Here are some of the health benefits of playing touch rugby:

  • Cardiovascular fitness: Touch rugby is a high-intensity sport that requires players to run, sprint, and change direction frequently. This improves cardiovascular fitness and endurance, which can help reduce the risk of heart disease.
  • Strength and power: Touch rugby involves a lot of quick starts, stops, and changes of direction, which improves leg strength and power. Additionally, the sport also requires upper body strength and power to fend off tackles and make passes.
  • Coordination and agility: Touch rugby requires players to be agile and coordinated in order to move quickly and smoothly on the field. This improves balance and coordination, which can help prevent injuries.
  • Teamwork and social interaction: Touch rugby is a team sport that requires players to work together to score points and win games. Playing in a team improves social interaction and teamwork skills, which can have positive effects on mental health.
  • Low risk of injury: Touch rugby does not involve tackling, which reduces the risk of injury compared to traditional rugby. Additionally, the sport can be played on a variety of surfaces and does not require a lot of equipment, which makes it accessible to a wide range of people.
