Zac Nearchou

5’10” prop Zac Nearchou has joined Cambridge from Ampthill. Zac has previous with the Blood & Sand in National League One, on loan from Wasps. A former England Under 19 Prop, he’s a Wasps Under 18 graduate and joined Wasps’ Senior Academy ahead of the 2019/20 season. He joined the Club from Radley College and spent time on loan at Benetton Rugby during the 2020/21 season.

The 23 year old can also operate at hooker and has represented England at Under 18 and Under 19 levels. He turned out 29 times for the Mob – 9 times last Championship season, scoring twice.

As regular supporters will remember from his brief time at Grantchester Road, he loves to get involved in attack – Zac scored a belter in the Premiership Cup against Leicester Tigers last season…

Head coach Richie Williams says:

“We are pleased to see the return of Zac to Cambridge after his brief loan period with us a few seasons ago.

I believe he is someone that has huge potential to develop his all round game even more and add further competition to our already strong front-row. At 23, he has already gained professional experiences at both Wasps in the Premiership and more recently with Benetton in the URC.

He has a slightly different profile to our other loose heads but will compliment our game in both the loose and tight”.

Jake Bridges

6 foot prop Jake Bridges arrives at Cambridge from Nottingham Rugby. Another from the Samuel Whitbread rugby academy production line, Jake also represented Northampton Saints Academy as well as the East Midlands representative side on his way through the age groups at Coventry where made over 25 appearances in the Championship squad.

The 22 year old has, too, had time on loan at Birmingham Moseley in National League One.

Blood & Sand head coach Richie Williams says:

“Jake is a young TH prop who will develop massively under the watchful eye of Neil Harris. He has already tasted Championship rugby with both Nottingham and Coventry and will want to develop his game even further this season. He has an excellent work ethic and desire to improve and I am excited about welcoming him to the club”.
