Cambridge turned a delayed kick‑off into a dominant display, beating St Neots 36-7 thanks to a hat‑trick from centre Kate Willis and a strong all‑round team performance at home. The delayed kick‑off and extended warm‑up left both sides adjusting, but Cambridge struck early: Lily Nicol opening the scoring before Kate Willis crossed and converted her own try to make it 12-0. Play was paused for an injury shortly afterwards and momentum shifted; St Neots replied through a well‑worked score from their fly‑half which they converted to make it 12-7 at half‑time. The second half belonged to Cambridge. Kate scoring a hat‑trick with two more clinical finishes, moving her to the top of the league’s try‑scoring charts. Further tries from Alex Perex Pion and captain Molly Henthorn put the result beyond doubt, with the extras added by Kate and Rubies U18 Laura Miller. Special mentions to forward of the match Alex Perex Pion, for some powerful carries and key work at the breakdown; back of the match Amy Jin – catapulted into the fly half position after injury, she remained aggressive in attack and defense and was instrumental in linking play; and to Laura Miller on her debut – very composed, some incredible breaks up the wing and capping it off with a tidy conversion.
The women’s had the pleasure to invite Alison Jeffrey, their main sponsor on the pitch to give her balls signed by the team after their 1st XV’s league opener.
